backstory
Emmalou “Emmy” Halliday Horan (they/them) was born and raised in the heart of Los Angeles, California. The youngest of three, Emmy grew up in a house that always felt cold, no matter the weather. Their parents were emotionally distant — polite on the outside, but never nurturing. Affection was rare, and expectations were high, often suffocating. Amid the silence and strained smiles, Emmy’s only real solace in childhood was the presence of their two older siblings: Crwys, six years their senior, and Dom, four years older.Crwys, the quiet rebel with a soft spot for Emmy, was the first to break free, moving out when Emmy was only 12. Dom stuck around a bit longer, trying to shield their youngest sibling from the worst of it, but when he turned 18, he too left — and Emmy was left to weather the storm alone.Figure skating became a sanctuary. Emmy started skating at just five years old, and the rink was the only place they felt weightless — free. Blades slicing through ice drowned out the silence of home, and for a while, that was enough. But when adolescence hit, and the weight of being alone with their parents became heavier, Emmy began to spiral.High school brought a blend of glitter and darkness. Emmy joined the cheer squad — bright uniforms, practiced smiles, and competitions — but behind the scenes, they began self-medicating with alcohol, numbing the ache that wouldn’t leave. Amidst the chaos, there was one constant source of love: their grandmother. Warm, sharp-witted, and endlessly kind, she gave Emmy what their parents never could — affection, understanding, and the simple gift of being seen. Then came 2021 — a night that would change everything.Emmy met Niall Horan at a bar in LA. What started as casual conversation turned into something magnetic. They met up again, and again, a spark growing into a flame. Not long after, Niall proposed an unconventional arrangement — for Emmy to become his sugar baby. Emmy, drawn to the honesty of it all, agreed. But what neither of them expected was how deeply they'd fall for each other. That same year, under city lights and quiet whispers, Niall confessed his love for Emmy. Emmy, finally feeling safe in someone’s arms, realized they felt the same.To celebrate Emmy's graduation, Niall took them to Paris — the city of lights, of love, of new beginnings. There, on a rain-speckled balcony overlooking the Seine, he proposed. Emmy said yes. Just two months later, in February, they eloped in the rolling hills of Ireland, in a ceremony that was intimate, wild, and beautifully theirs. They moved to New York and bought a cozy house full of windows and quiet corners. Emmy pursued their dream of becoming a lawyer, dedicating themselves to justice and healing what they could of the world — and maybe, of themselves. In 2023, blending their passion for literature and coffee, they opened Bookworm Brews, a bookshop café that quickly became a local favorite. In 2024, Emmy traveled the world alongside Niall while he was on tour, soaking in every new city, every moment of magic. And at the close of the year, the biggest chapter of all began: Emmy gave birth to their twins, Theodore and Winter Halliday-Horan, named with intention, love, and a touch of poetry.Today, Emmy is a devoted parent, an entrepreneur, a figure skater, and someone who survived a hard beginning and wrote a softer ending for themselves. They fill their days with coffee, naps, horror movie marathons, line dancing in the living room, cuddles with their fur babies, and spontaneous trips with Niall — especially to Paris, where they now own a home. The world once felt sharp and cold, but Emmy built one of their own — warm, whimsical, and full of love.
